TRANSLOADING,
ANY EQUIPMENT TO ANY EQUIPMENT.
When freight arrives on one kind of equipment and has to leave on another, it needs a transload. LOAD X finds a facility that can do the transfer for your freight.
LOAD X sources and coordinates the right provider for each request. LOAD X does not own every facility, truck or crew, and provider availability is confirmed per request — nothing is booked until LOAD X confirms it with you.
WHAT IT IS
Transloading is transferring freight from one mode or type of equipment to another: an ocean container to a 53’ trailer, a railcar to trucks, a flatbed to a van, or a full truckload to several smaller vehicles. It is similar to crossdocking, but the focus is on changing equipment or mode rather than consolidating or splitting shipments.
Transloads can involve floor-loaded freight, palletizing, bracing or special equipment such as forklifts with clamps or extended forks, so LOAD X confirms the facility has what your freight needs.
WHEN YOU NEED IT
- A container has to be unloaded and its freight moved onto trucks
- Freight must move from a flatbed or specialized trailer to an enclosed van, or the reverse
- A full load has to be split onto box trucks or smaller vehicles for delivery
- Equipment failed or doesn’t fit the receiver, and the freight needs different equipment
HOW LOAD X COORDINATES IT
- You send the request. Use the request form, NEED HELP NOW, the LOAD X assistant or the 24/7 line. You get a request number and a private tracking link.
- LOAD X reviews it. The team reads the details, checks what’s missing and contacts you if anything needs clarifying.
- The team sources providers. LOAD X reaches out to facilities, crews or carriers that fit the freight, location and timing, and asks each one to confirm availability for this job.
- You confirm the plan. LOAD X brings the option back to you. Nothing is booked until LOAD X confirms it with you, and the tracking page only shows SOLUTION CONFIRMED once it is.
- LOAD X stays your point of contact. Status updates appear on your tracking page (and by email or text if you opt in), and you can add photos or paperwork there at any time.
WHAT TO SEND US
The more of this you include, the faster the team can source the right option. Photos and paperwork can be attached to the request.
- Pickup and delivery locations (city and state at minimum; full addresses if you have them)
- The date you need it done, or whether it’s flexible
- Pallet count, dimensions and approximate weight
- Commodity, and whether anything is hazmat, fragile or high value
- Your name, company, phone and email
- Inbound equipment or container (size, floor-loaded or palletized)
- Outbound equipment needed
- Any container free-time or per-diem deadlines
- Special handling equipment the freight needs

COMMON QUESTIONS
What’s the difference between transloading and crossdocking?
They overlap. Crossdocking usually means moving freight between trucks to consolidate, split or re-route it; transloading usually means changing equipment or mode, such as container to trailer. Read more in Crossdock vs. transload.
Can you transload floor-loaded containers?
Many transload facilities handle floor-loaded freight and can palletize it. LOAD X confirms labor and equipment with the facility for your request.
Do you arrange the outbound truck too?
LOAD X can coordinate the outbound transportation as part of the request if you need it. Say so when you send the details.
